Some of you might remember the post made by @Russell Holly some time ago, I didn't know about the series (Sword Art Online or SAO for some) back then, and if don't know about what I'm talking about here is the link to that post which is pretty good: Some thoughts after watching Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale.

Well it's a pretty old video of how even today we are recreating the virtual reality used in the game, I think even for that time (April 2016) was a pretty nice technology which I think in no time will be ready for consumers.

    Here the video:

For what I saw they are just using some kind of sensors to follow the shoes and some wrist bands in order to see the body, but also what I think is the kinect camera to follow the fingers and position of the body, looks pretty impressive for me, huge and bulky but pretty nice.

This is both exciting and horrifying. Also, the headsets are most likely overly stylized to resemble the bigger head gear worn in the original series.

I still haven't watched the Movie, I feel like it wasn't released worldwide in the end, there is now another Serie or season for the series, I wonder what they will add and or change to it, it looks like for some time VR is in the same level and not progressing as before when we were seeing changes and innovation almost everyday.
