    Hi welcome to VRheads.
The use's for VR besides gaming are still being explored.
    A couple of examples:

What might be a practical for yourself would depend on your interests of course.
Here are some possible use's for AR/VR.

Those are truly great examples of projects currently available or being developed...but there must be many more that we dont realize at this point, dont you agree?

Vr games is the easiest entry point, so that's where we will see it first.

But videos, and social networking, and even films may be next.

It would also have scientific value, but there's still a while.

Tourism is a pretty interesting aspect of it. There's a VR Museum of Fine Art that lets you stand next to the Terracotta Army, look up at the the Statue of David in full size, see the world's largest Buddha, and a whole bunch of other stuff. The items are incredibly well scanned and the sense of scale standing next to these giant things is awesome!

Actually VR can practically simulates real life with limitations, so everything you can do in real life can be replicate it in Virtual Reality, so as a learning tool is simply one of the best in any area.

I believe there are multiple good uses for VR that plenty of people have come up with but arent yet available or even proto-typed. But it wont be long.

I'm also working on a VR brain training app for athletes to help them recognize moving objects in 3D space, in addition, it is useful for helping the recovery of concussion patients. I think that medicine will be a big driver of VR tech over the next 5 years.

We are already starting to see some projects in many areas. Nasa and plane pilots are using it for ages now.

VR is used at amusement parks on roller coasters to make it seem like you're flying a plane etc. And can be used to watch 3D movies (either now or eventually). But AR will be more practical and productive in real day to day life. Apple is said to be working allot on AR.

I think VR uqe is prodia used in the tourist world and even in the world of hospitality that travelers through virtual reality could know facilities of hotels and with this call the attention to book these hotels given the same features highlighted by VR

I agree. Museums are actually starting to use them as well, I believe.

Personally, another use I just thought for VR that would be real great would be CAD and 3D model creation. Being able to move and navigate the objects you design in actual 3D with natural movements would be much better than the clumsy UIs of today.

I can definitely see that changing the way that buildings are designed, not just for the architects but for the clients... Having a 3D rendering as opposed to a 2D drawing will make construction decisions so much easier. You can put equipment in place and truly see how it affects your design.
