I don't really know much about VR and I don't know what's out there. What is the selling point of the technology right now? What makes it worth the associated costs in your opinion?

For me it's the viewing experiences. Yea the games are kinda cool, BUT watching a sports game in VR, or a 360 decree video, OR "adult" content, now THAT is what sells it for me!

In my opinion, what sells VR is VR. You've kinda got to experience it to fully appreciate it and to gauge the value for you. None of the VR options currently are "essential," so it's all about how much you enjoy it or want it. As long as it's in your price range and won't put you in debt, I'd say it's worth it.

All the experiences together is what makes it worth it, IMO. The games, the videos, the social apps, etc.

VR's biggest road block with the adoption of the masses is literally its one of those things you actually need to experience to get. That is why the smart phone experience is important IMO and while it lacks the technical finesse of the Vive or Rift or even the PSVR it is certainly more accesible.
