PlayStation VR launched with a slew of software for virtual reality fans to dive into, but since then, new releases have been few and far between. However, PlayStation VR owners now have a brand new virtual reality experience to try out if they’re so inclined, as Sony has released a Ghostbusters VR game called Ghostbusters: Now Hiring that is available now for a mere $6.99.

Ghostbusters: Now Hiring was released on the PlayStation Store on March 21 with no prior announcement. Sony released a trailer alongside the game to give fans an idea of what to expect from it, revealing that the new game takes place in the same cinematic universe as the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot film.

The 2016 Ghostbusters movie was controversial at the time of its release among Ghostbusters purists who wanted to see the original cast and characters return to the big screen. The film failed to perform as well at the box office as Sony expected it to, and as a result, the future of the Ghostbusters film series is in question. Due to the movie’s lackluster box office performance, those that enjoyed the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot may only be able to see the story continued in some fashion through the comic books and Ghostbusters: Now Hiring.

The plot of Ghostbusters: Now Hiring sees the player join the titular Ghostbusters as a new employee. In the game, players are free to explore the firehouse that the team calls their base of operations, in addition to other areas. Besides exploring locations from the film, gameplay also consists of battling ghosts with a proton pack, including the iconic Slimer.

Even with popular series characters like Slimer making an appearance, it remains to be seen how fans will respond to Ghostbusters: Now Hiring, considering the backlash to the 2016 reboot and the poor reception to last year’s Ghostbusters game. It’s possible that the game’s relatively low price point will help some fans overlook its potential shortcomings and give it a shot, especially those that are looking for something new to play on their PlayStation VR headset. On the flip side, those disappointed by the 2016 movie and its poorly-received game may think twice about spending more money on the franchise.

Ghostbusters: Now Hiring is available now for PlayStation VR.

If I had a PSVR, I'd definitely check it out. I didn't watch the more recent movie, so I have no bad taste in my mouth for the franchise, lol. And yes, I remember the Void experience article as well. I am still wishing I could go try that out, lol.
