This is correct. It won't be a "Daydream ready" device. Though it's a Nexus so I'm sure they'll be work arounds.

Is oneplus 3 daydream enabled? I heard zte axon 7 is daydream enabled. Since, both are using snapdragon 820, oneplus 3 should be capable.

Although it might be able to run daydream apps without many drawbacks, oneplus 3 isnt a certified Daydream-ready phone

Oneplus 3 isn't ever VR capable, mainly because a large screen and 1080p display (you'll see pixels when using VR). for the axon 7, its daydream compatible but not ready (like pixel and pixel XL)
