I read a VERY interesting blog by Florence Ion, one of our editors. She recently attended a talk at GDC in San Fran, which is a developer conference. It was about how developers are using film techniques to make better, more immersive games. This brought me back to a class a took in the 90ies called "The Language of Film" in which we studied such techniques. I took the class just so I could watch movies while getting college credit, BUT I actually learned SO much. I learned how director's use certain types of character movement within the frame to create audience reactions, or how sound and music is used, etc

To learn that game developers are using these same techniques, was eye opening, BUT actually not all THAT surprising. For one thing music and other game sounds have been used for many years by developers to enhance game play. This can be especially useful in the 3D environment of VR. And I can also see how camera angles can be used, such as POV (of COURSE), and low angle, etc.

So what techniques are you guys using? @KermEd @EgoAnt, etc?

Honestly? Not much - yet. I'm focusing on action and I don't have a lot of time or budget. =)

Can't wait to have more time to try out more cinematic techniques.
