    Folks,

I just got done reading this blog by Jen Karner, about watching movies on your Gear VR. While using the GearVR Movies app and buying movies may not be your best option, this does NOT mean you are out of luck! Both Netflix and Hulu have apps available so if you subscribe to either you can use those apps for good movie viewing. Additionally you can use the GearVR Movie app to watch movies you already own that are downloaded to your phone! Please be-careful NOT to violate the digital millennium copyright act. Otherwise ENJOY!

Watching movies in GearVR while traveling is the best. I load a few movies onto the internal storage in my Note 5 and go nuts.

I'm not sure what their options are as far as an experimental browser, or "kodi" BUT you can use services such as Hulu & Netflix to watch streaming movies available to those services, IF you subscribe. Free trials are generally available.

What is the Hulu/Netflix app like? Are you sitting in a theater watching the video, or does it fill your display?

Not sure about Hulu but for netflix you're essentially sitting in a living room with a giant tv as the default but you can look straight up and select the void theater to be in a completely blank space and you can resize the screen.

Is it comfortable wearing the gear VR for prolonged periods like watching a movie? I'm interested in getting one but haven't used VR for long before and don't know how my eyes would feel after a couple hours

I've used it for a couple hours (albeit playing a game) and had no discomfort. I haven't watched a movie for more than about an hour and a half, but no discomfort there either. Your mileage may vary, but I find it very comfortable and not hard on my eyes at all.

I agree... haven't had many issues with movies... other than the annoying drift depending on what service or app you are using to view the movies. I really wish this would get fixed already!

That seems a little weird. Is the experience good?

The purpose of the Void Theater mode is to 1) be able to be on your back to watch something (or just reclined and not wanting to get a crick in your neck) or 2) to be able to watch it in other environments, such as on an airplane, where you're constantly turning. In the Void Theater mode, the screen follows your gaze, so you could be slowly spinning around and it would stay in front of you.

Netflix works pretty well. Especially when I want to watch a movie in bed. Pop in some headphones, and I don't disturb the Misus.

That's almost exactly what I'm thinking about, plus the occasional game.

works great when hooked up to a synology NAS with DLNA media server enabled. add the pigasys viewer and you can watch your entire movie library anywhere in the house.

That's weird. I have a Note 5 also and don't have any problem watching a full movie in Netflix. I rarely get an overheat warning. Maybe you can try cooling the phone down so it feels cold before starting? That should give you extra time.

Some people use gel packs as a solution as well. Doesn't have to be frozen or even cold; it'll still work as a heat sink.
