If I had more time, I would make something like this. Right now, I really only play with my Gear VR at my desk. I use a small 4" desk fan for that.

By the way, welcome to VR Heads! Please keep posting your favorite videos and news, and keep talking with us!

How do you focus the unit with the tape sticking it all together?

Welcome to VR Heads, szeszo. That's pretty wild. I so far haven't experienced overheating to the point where I need a fan.

    Welcome szeszo, thanks for sharing!

I'm guessing you have one Gear VR.

I was wondering if only if the cover is changed to a metal conducting cover to dissipate heat will work.

cool idea! My galaxy s7 overheats after about 15 minutes of using it in the Gear VR. Makes the headset almost useless. I probably won't spend the time setting up a contraption like this, but hopefully someone can tell me if this is normal to have it overheat this quickly.

You have to remember the phone is also powering the GearVR.
Using the OEM charger, and cable, in Fast charge mode, the phone stays cooler for longer.

Thats a great tip since hottest thing is usually battery in smartphones. Heat kills electronics.
Love seeing what people can rig up to improve stuff. Especially if I got the stuff laying around.

I bought this for my Gear VR with Galaxy S7:

    https://smile.amazon.com/VIVISKY-Por...s=phone+cooler

It's extremely light and does an excellent job of keeping the phone cool. It does require external power, but I just route the USB cord along the strap to the rear and I use it with a small power bank in my pocket. The only downside is that the fan is audible when using earbuds, so I modified mine by opening it up and soldering in one of these between the USB socket and the fan:

Mini DC-DC Converter Adjustable Step Down Module Power Supply Output 1.3-20V | eBay

I drilled a hole in the back over the adjustment screw so that I can adjust the voltage. I found that turning it down to just above the minimum to run the fan was optimal. It is now very quiet, but keeps the phone cool.

Almost all big brands, different times I guess.

but I know how molded might decreases prices around 200 to 400 times compared with 3D printing, so it's matter of time to some Chinese company take this idea and make it cheaper, we are not on those times anymore, that's why I posted those other options at $35, of course, having the idea and making better is what stands these days.

I will stick with the adding a metal plate in order to dissipate the heat a bit faster.

That is a cool idea to help cool down your phone when using it with an HMD.
