Actually yes, most of the 360 pictures and videos are like a panorama photo or video, so PhotoSphere is kind of another way to capture and show (as I understand, never got a phone with that).

There are multiple kinds of panoramas. The two most common are cylindrical and spherical. Both work just fine for viewing in a VR headset.

Great, now if only there was an easy way to take photospheres on an iphone! I only realized this week that it's possible in the street view app, which is a strange place to hide it..
