I know, I know. Screen protectors are so un-sexy. BUT, since my 10 day old Galaxy S7 fell on the floor and smashed I'm wrapping the replacement up in cotton wool. Which included a screen protector. Except when I tried to use Gear VR the phone wouldn't fit properly. The piece that plugs into the microUSB wouldn't accept the phone properly due to the thickness (I assume.)

Non-glass screen protectors are, in my opinion, useless, and I would like to be able to use a tempered glass if at all possible. Just wondering if anyone else had the same issue and found one thin enough to slot into the Gear VR?

Not a Gear VR user, but I think you may need more something like this:

    Galaxy S7 Waterproof Case

This things cover your phone all around but you can take it off to use your Gear VR, of course not the ultimate answer but something.

I have 2 of the 3 glass screen protectors I bought left over. They don't fit the edges correctly, and leave a halo because of the bent edges. I took the one off the phone. Won't use the others.

Any updates on this? Would ideally like to protect my S8 but also don't want to make it incompatible with the Gear VR
