This is depressing. I connected the phone (on home screen) to the Gear VR and don't get the audible prompt that it is connected. I created an Oculus account, but I don't get the initial welcome screen so I can install the Oculus app. Nothing works except the back button.
Something is wrong, but I don't know if it's something I'm not doing, or I have deeper problems with the unit or phone. What Oculus app is supposed to be installed? Got a link to it? Is it on the Play store?
I need help troubleshooting this.

What I'm finding is the Oculus app isn't installed. I can go to the oculus.com site and sign in, but I can't figure out how to get the app.
I did find this:

but I can't find com.facebook.appmanager or com.facebook.system on my phone, anywhere.
I un-installed and re-installed Facebook. No go. I'm stumped now. I can't even find a way to contact Oculus.

Which version of the Gear VR hardware do you have and which phone model are you trying to use?
Some versions of the Gear VR hardware only work with specific phone models.

There have been 4 iterations of the Gear VR hardware released (so far).

I have the R323 and S7.
One thing I will not do is flash the OS, in case someone was going to suggest it. And a reliable root is not available.
Right now I'm having fun with the CB apps. Those work great.
Can't wait for Thanksgiving to let the grand and great grand kids enjoy it.
Can you dig it? 4 generations spinning around in a chair. 😅

The Oculus app is supposed to automatically install when the phone is first inserted into the Gear VR.
I had read some claims on forums that you need to be connected to cellular service when connecting the gear VR to the phone in order to have a special firmware updated on the phone that installs Oculus.
Some people with Sprint cellular service were claiming they had trouble with getting Gear VR to work.
I have Verizon service with a S7, and the Gear VR started working the first time I connected the Gear VR.

Bingo!!! That did it.
Reading that thread, this was an easy fix. I had it all turned off in Package Pro, so I turned everything on for Oculus and FB.
Plugged it into the headset, and it connected.
