Will Google Cardboard be discontinued now that daydream is out?

Not at all! Cardboard is for short VR experiences and great for classrooms. With Daydream, Google is hoping to foster VR experiences that encourage users to stay in VR for extended periods of time. For example, you probably wouldn't watch a TV show in Google Cardboard. In Daydream, it's much more enjoyable. There needs to be both, and Google totally gets that.

Well Cardboard also has much lower requirements than Daydream. I still feel that Cardboard is on the way of the dodo, but it will take a while.

I feel that Cardboard is more accessible, meaning cheaper, works across most Android devices, and comes in all variety of designs. Since schools actively use it, I expect it to be around for awhile.

Cardboard also works with iOS devices as well. Google would not let a potential way to get people to switch go away.

For people with more mainstream phones, it's an in-between solution that's more attainable. It'll be around for a while yet I think.
