I just ordered a headset after reading reviews saying how great it is, after clicking order I decided to check out the forums and now I see overheating being a big issue with this. So my question is if I am using the headset on a somewhat regular basis even for 15-30 mins at a time is it going to affect my long term battery life? I want to have this pixel xl for 2 years and I don't want to cripple my battery life.

This IS a good question, and we really don't know the answer. So far I'm just going for it. I DO monitor use and if my phone seems a little hot I give it a cool down break.

OK, if you really want to improve a little and get some knowledge about it I recommend you this:

Charging Batteries at High and Low Temperatures ? Battery University

But the short version is, the battery should never raises to a temperature high enough to really cuts the battery expected lifetime, maybe in matter of months, but not years, and that's because those temperatures are too high to be safe for others components and also the user (more than 65C / 149F), if that happens for any reason you will feel the device truly hot and I think there will be a chain reaction and then a Note7 demonstration.

But by any mean you should try to keep your device between the recommended temperatures for each situation for the type of battery the Pixel has (look the table in the link provided).

I hope I was useful, I'm not a specialist in Batteries but I'm an electronic engineer and I do understand some of that.
