I'm after the phone which may be compatible with Daydream.

So far Android Central has an article informing that the only two devices are copatible (so far), and those are:

    - Google Pixel Series.
    - ZTE Axon 7

Possibly compatible devices according to other sources:

    - Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe
    - Moto Z and Moto Z Force
    - Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and S7 Active
    -

All those have the Snapdragon 820, (at least) Full HD OLED displays and at least 4 GB of RAM. Most current phones either do not have the necessary low latency sensors or low persistence display demanded by Google.

I hope to see more and more devices being Daydream compatible in the real list.

low latency sensors or low persistence display are the main problem so far, looks like it's something too important but I think the market will define what will be compatible next.

Right now Google is running a really heavy campaign to sell the Pixels, maybe they will measure the market with that first.

I had the thought that the Galaxy line might be also, but I'm not sure Samsung would certify its phones to work with a rival VR platform. If it did, that'd be cool.

I know my moto g 3 was not going to be compatible, but I expect that most phones will have the minimum specs in a year or so. Until then, there's cardboard...

Samsung is on the list of manufacturers that will be making Daydream compatible phones.

Considering that Daydream requires higher end specs, I can't help but hope that their next flagship (S8?) will be compatible with Daydream AND GearVR.

Disappointing that the Nexus 6P won't be compatible. It's still a great phone, shame about the processor being a little out of spec.

I believe Russell or Andrew mentioned in the Pixel Podcast that am Alcatel device would be Daydream ready when updated to Nougat. I think in the next Podcast someone said one of the new Huawei phones would be too.

Sorry I can't remember exactly which phones they were...

any chance older phones (like the lg g5 for example), will be able to be made compatible after the fact? or is it strictly based on hardware?

If the phone is not on the compatibility list, does it mean that the phone won't work/apps won't load or it just means that they may not provide an optimal experience?

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing as well. Cuz Google only says that they are Daydream "ready." That doesn't sound like that other phones which aren't in the list aren't "able" to run it, right?

yea thats what i got out of that as well, but can't really find anywhere that says otherwise. I'm assuming older phones won't be compatible, but I am still curious

I think I read somewhere, one of the requirements is how hot the phone will get. This is why the Nexus 5x/6p aren't Daydream compatible; they get too hot when running which would make for an uncomfortable experience when inside the headset.

I think the best answer you have will be entering this site: https://vr.google.com/daydream/

But basically it is a whole VR experience, it means, 360 pictures and videos, interactive 360 activities, 3D movies and more.
