I was looking at the Steam store last night, and I noticed that they are not allowing reviews to be posted by Steam members. I'm wondering if it is troll prevention or something else. It's kinda weird.

They might be worried because Oculus is better?

100% of the people I know who have used both prefer the Rift

That's interesting because that's contrary to every other opinion I've heard on the web. I haven't used either myself. What makes it better?

    Count one for the Vive

    Love the motion controllers.

    Motion controllers are moot.
Oculus will have better ones soon.

Software is what is holding back VR right now

Would be interested in hearing one reason the vive is better other than motion controllers from someone who has used both.

The things people prefer on the rift are the lenses, the fit, the finish, larger sweet spot

I went with the Vive myself because of one thing: Fallout 4. That game takes so much of my time on my Xbox, and the only game I play more is Minecraft on my Gear VR. Both systems can do virtual desktops, which is another feature I want to try. I also have Tabletop Simulator in the Steam store, so that should be good.

I think the reason is simple - Steam doesn't actually sell these things to you. All of their hardware is sold through distributors - Amazon, the HTC site, etc. Since Steam has no way of verifying you purchased the item it makes sense to have the reviews be posted at the location where you bought it from. This way they don't end up with angry comments on shipping or defective hardware for things that are ultimately out of their control.

That makes total sense now that I think about it.

I've tried both headsets and right now I give a slight edge to the HTC - even if you take the motion controls out of it. Ultimately, though, they are very close. I'm hoping to try the Oculus touch controllers soon, not sure when I'll have a chance, though.

Right now the HTC support for room-scale is better, and that's what puts it ahead for me.

Another moot point. Rift is fully room scale capable, and from what I hear from friends/devs experimenting with it, it is going to be excellent once the touch controllers are out.

Still have yet to hear one valid reason that puts the Vive ahead of the Rift.

Being first out of the gate with a technology to market isn't really moot. Oculus will have room scale, and it may or may not be better, but Vive has it right now and has good games that support it. In a race between two very talented runners, if one of them pulls ahead during the race you can't say, "She isn't ahead right now, because the runner in second place will eventually be that fast."

So Rift will be getting room scale VR too? How will that work exactly? Will there be new sensors like Vive's, requiring ANOTHER additional purchase? And what about the games? How many will support that feature when it's launched/implemented?

I have no interest in the Rift. I'd go Vive against Rift any day.

Instead of the Rift id go OSVR. Save cash and get hardware you can actually upgrade.
