My 4k monitor just broke, and I have another nice fullHD 3d TV.
The question is-will the Rift or the Vive be able to provide a good movie watching experience, or the resolution is just too low for that?
Do you think I may benefit from watching a movie in VR rather than on a 42" fullHD TV?

I find the video is a bit too grainy for my comfort compared to things like 4K videos but ymmv. Different people have different tolerances. I think TV's still have the legs up with the HDR versions coming down in price; OLED displays etc. HMD's while very good still aren't as sharp as a dedicated display.
