Just like any other product with lenses, make sure you use a microfiber cloth and solutions that are non-abrasive. Anti-fog spray is also recommended. For the rest of the unit, clean cloth.

So this method is not recommended by HTC, but I remove and run the foam padding under warm water. Press a cloth towel or paper towel to absorb some of the liquid, and let it air dry.

That's what I do with both the Vive and Gear VR foams. Anything more than water would cause the foam to decay and would require replacement sooner. My biggest issue is I sweat at the drop of a hat.

I don't believe the water will hurt either, BUT for "best answer" purposes I went with the official.
